Landing at TBIT with separate onward ticket

Landing at TBIT with separate onward ticket

This fall I’ll be arriving at TBIT from Brisbane and will have a separate ticket (as yet unpurchased) for my onward travel back to Memphis. Since we’ll be arriving on a Qantas flight I know there’s a place to re-check bags on AA that were originally checked all the way through. In Chicago, when I had separate tickets I was able to get them to re-tag my bag with my onward ticket info before I left the secured area. And there were stations for both AA and UA so even if I changed airlines I still didn’t have to schelp my bags on the train all the way back around to the check-in counters.

Will I be able to do something similar at TBIT? I know the AA terminal is just next door so that’s not as big of a deal but the UA terminals are a bit further away. I’m still monitoring prices to see which airline I’ll fly home.
