JAL/AA best J seats US to JP

JAL/AA best J seats US to JP

Departing from the east coast, which AA or JAL flights in J would you recommend?
My understanding is that most AA flights have angled-flat seats. I believe 787 departing from ORD is the exception. JAL has a mixture of seats as well. How do I identify transpacific JAL flights with full flatbeds?

I believe Boston gets flat seats starting June as well. http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2016/01/21/japan-airlines-boston-upgrade/

Not sure if the sky suites are featured on the 789s. Might be something to keep an eye on.

I always check this for JAL seats. The NA routes are pretty fixed (I can’t speak for the Intra-Asia).

Our family may be going to Hong Kong later this year and we need some advice. We will be leaving from LAX and we have two options. One is AA nonstop on the 777-300er in business. The other option is JAL’s sky suite through Tokyo. Which would you say is better considering the inconvenience of making another stop?

I think the soft product on JAL will be better but I’d probably go with the direct routing on AA with solid hard product. Also not sure what you’d get on the shorter TYO-HKG leg.

Agree with @Gaurav . Intra-Asia J on JAL is hit and miss. I had a decent 777-200 NRT-HKG during a recent trip but it was not lie flat. In fact, I don’t think they currently have any planes that are lie-flat between TYO-HKG. Plus, if you are with family I would not book the extra segment through Tokyo unless significantly cheaper.

I live near ORD, we get the 777-300er, not the 787
