IST to JFK

IST to JFK

Hi Lucky. I am trying to use miles for a return honey-moon trip/cruise. We end our cruise in Istanbul and I am trying to fly back first class/business class to JFK. I was thinking IST to Milan to JFK via Emirates, but I will have to buy some Alaska miles to do so.

However, I did notice Delta has a direct flight from IST to JFK, but the delta one costs 125K miles per passenger. Just curious, I have a lot of AMEX rewards, Citi Thank you, and AA miles, (all over 100K) what you thought the best route back would be and if you thought using the AMEX points to transfer to delta is worth it?

    Thx

@Prospect Joe – welcome! Have you considered transferring MRs and TYPs to Singapore Air for use on Turkish? Turkish has a non-stop to JFK, lie flat seats and the food is quite good! It’s 115K each for a one-way business class ticket. Plus you’d get to visit the lounge in IST. It’s quite impressive too!

Oh this is a fantastic idea. I will check this option out. Thank you so much!

Midsouth Skier. Could I use Aeroplan to book ? Is that a better or worse option than KrisFlyer?

@Prospect Joe You could. Aeroplan has Turkey in Europe 2 which is 105,000 miles R/T in J I believe and Turkish is one of the airlines without surcharges so that should work. The Aeroplan price goes up to 115k R/T on 12/15. SQ does have much more reasonable cancellation policies if that is important.

I think MSS meant to say SQ is 115 R/T too so after 12/15 they will both be the same price and both allow one-way booking (at least to North America).

Ah, I see. Thank you for the clarification. If I were to transfer Amex MR points over to Aeroplan prior to 12/15 I could book each one business class ticket on Turkish for 105K. Then after 12/15 it will jump up.

What’s interesting is that I can find availability on via Aeroplan, however I can’t get anything to populate for me via Kris Flyer.

    Thank you both.

Krisflyer isn’t the easiest to use for award bookings for partners. However, I would call Aeroplan to confirm that there are seats available before transferring your MR because those transfers can’t be reversed. Just to clarify, for a one way trip for two people between IST and JFK you will pay 105k miles total.

Thanks for clarifying, @Gaurav (and love the new avatar, BTW!) I looked at the KrisFlyer award chart but failed to note that the prices were RT and not one-way as most charts I’ve looked at lately are.

Hope that works out for you @Prospect Joe!
