International upgrades for non-premium fliers

International upgrades for non-premium fliers

i just purchased my first ever American Airlines upgrade to business class. I was surprised at the cost..in fees and miles. Wanted to check to see if this is usual, and I’m just naive? For an upgrade to a Paris Chicago ticket, I paid 25,000 miles plus $350 for copayment, $75 for processing plus taxes of $43 for CDG flight charges. I had to go on waiting list when first requested, and was upgraded about 5 days ahead…all done by phone. Thanks.

Welcome @Maryh – yep, that sounds about right. Using miles to upgrade is not always a bargain these days, unfortunately.
