I have both Amex Plat & Amex Biz Plat so…
If I am going to pay with MR points, can I specify the Amex Plat as the purchasing card and get 5X points (since it appears as a charge, and then a credit on the statement), and then also expect to get 50% point rebate because of the Amex Plat Biz? This would be cool. E.g. $1000 ticket = 5000 points if paid with Amex Plat, use 100000 MR “pay with points”, get 50000 back so NET = 45000? Maybe I’m missing something.
You have to use the “pay with points” option at checkout in order to get the 50% back in points so there are no charges on your credit card. You still get miles in your frequent flyer account based on the ticket fare class like you normally would a cash ticket though.
Thanks David W. I agree with you except last time I did the “pay with points” it appeared as a charge on my card and then a statement credit negating it. I am pretty sure (not positive) that I got points for that purchase (which was on the Biz Plat, and maybe must be–which would make the 5X impossible).
@datadoctor, based on this http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2016/12/23/amex-business-platinum-50-airline-bonus/ the charges seem to be posting directly to the MR account. Please let us know if things work differently when you purchase. I highly doubt you will be able to get 5x AND the 50% rebate.
