Hyatt Globalist Mattress Run Without Putting Head on Pillow
Inspired by Nhall1010’s earlier question about getting to globalist on the cheap, I have thought about doing an early Hyatt mattress run in January to take advantage of the double elite nights promotion and point refund specials being run by Hyatt. Grabbing globalist status before I hopefully return to travel in the late summer would be nice.
There is a category 1 hyatt about 2.5 hours from where I live. Absolutely no desire to stay a single night there, but I will have to drive by there in mid-January on my way to drop off a kid at college. Hence I could “check in” in person if need be. Could I make a 10 night reservation for 50k Hyatt points and earn the 20 nights for statuts purpose without ever putting head on pillow in the place? The place advertises digital check in and a digital key. . . So can I avoid having to return once I check in? I assume, if I can digitally check in then I will be able to digitally check out. 20 status nights for 37.5k points is very tempting. I will get the other 10 nights through a combination of spend and having the card.
I don’t see why you couldn’t. To your point, most hotels now let you check out via the app.
The only thing I’m not too sure about is that they will probably notice you aren’t around whatsoever, I don’t know to what extent they monitor room key room swipes (for safety purpose I guess they check on people at some point to make sure they aren’t dead in their room).
You can also just be honest with them when you check in and say you’re only paying for this room to get status and you won’t be around.

When in doubt, try the honesty route. I like that.

Just wanted to echo what Clem said. I did a mattress run and did not alert them. After the 2nd day of the bed not being messed up, towels not used, and nothing in the room to signify that I planned to stay there they checked me out and kept the entire payment. When I called them back they said I needed to return to check back in. I now only do them close to home so I can pop in each morning, grab breakfast and a shower, mess up the bed, etc.
That’s really good to know, thanks @LovetoFly ! I think many of us are planning on a Hyatt mattress run so that’s great input.
