How to use AA miles to book Alaska Air or vice versa

How to use AA miles to book Alaska Air or vice versa

  1. Anonymous Guest

I currently only have AA miles, due to current devaluation, I’m trying to diversify / branch out. Can you quick go over what kind of agreement does AA and AS has? Can I use AA miles to book AS flight or AS miles to book AA flights?

You may do either. The rule are a little more limited when using AS miles in that travel must be on a single airline or a single airline + AS. This is something that keeps me from committing to AS as they don’t service my city. So if, for example, I wanted to use AS miles on Cathay (which also doesn’t service my city), I can’t book an AA flight to a city Cathay services and then fly out from there. If AS serviced my city I would be able to book all of that on one ticket.

Scott at Travel Codex has put together a post about AS routing rules: http://www.travelcodex.com/2015/05/award-travel-rules-on-alaska-airlines/
