How to credit AA elite miles to a OW partner Airline (Iberia)?
Hi,
I am trying to find out the procedure to apply elite miles earned on AA to their OW partner Iberia. I book the AA flight using my Aadvantage number to obtain my EP perks (preferred seats) but still would like the earned miles to credit to Iberia. An overview of the process of doing so would be helpful. AA phone support gave differing and thus far unsuccessful assistance.

Hi, AA phone support is not the way to go for this. Just leave your American number on your reservation until the day of travel. At the gate before you board, ask the gate agent to change your American number to your Iberia number.

I do not know if this still works, but in the past I used Finish Airways’ website to change my AAdvantage # to my BAEC # or vice-versa. See:

Thanks for the response. That worked. The issue I learned is that the ticket can only have on FF number attached. If you have AA elite status, and want to get the Platinum benefits, (MCE seats, etc), than you have to book using Advantage number and then, as you suggest, change at the gate just before boarding. Once boarding begins the number is locked in and can’t be changed. I will note it took the gate agent 4 tries before it “took” and then a new ticket was printed with the Iberia number on it. So you may need to have them try a few times.
