How to Book Qatar with AA Miles

1. Anonymous Guest

Hi All,

i was wondering how find reward space on qatar flights and book them using AA miles. I am particularly looking at how many miles would be required for JNB-Doha-JFK return, including taxes.

All help will be appreciated,

@Dominik.mandusic — Hi! A few links that will help:

Instructions for using AAdvantage miles are here: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/04/12/how-to-redeem-american-aadvantage-miles/

And the full award chart is here (as you didn’t mention which class of service you were looking at): https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/redeemMiles/all-partner-chart.jsp

Taxes and fees should be about $100, if that. You can look up your exact flights on ITA and then subtract the cost of the paid fare to get an exact amount: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/12/08/award-taxes-fees-much/

Hi Tiffany,

thank you for all the help.

I’m looking at flying in business class. My itinerary would look something like this.

4 october 2016
depart Johannesburg for doha, stay in doha for 2 days.

6 October 2016
depart doha for JFK. Stay in new york for 7 days.

13 October 2016
depart jfk for las vegas stay in vegas for 4 days.

17 october
drive from las vegas to lax and stay in LA for 2 days.

19 october
depart LA for Johannesburg via anywhere to be honest, preferably 1 stop.

I’ve been trying to work out how many miles i would need for this itinerary, to work out whether it would be cheaper to buy miles and utilise it for this trip. or to just pay the standard full fare. if i was to pay for the trip as a standard fare its around R52 000 which is equivalent to $3400…

Would you be able to give me a rough estimate of the amount of miles needed?

thanks a lot
dominik

hi Dominik-did you take a look at the link @Tiffany provided linking to the award charts for AA? You’ll need to check your origin and destination to look up the miles needed for each leg and then add them all to get your total cost since AA does not allow stopovers on award tickets any more. You’ll be able to book the last part as a single award since you are not stopping over anywhere.

Unless you find readily available award space you might be better off just booking this as a paid ticket if you have the means because the stopovers will drive up the cost of your redemption.
