How long does AA take to reinstate missing miles?

How long does AA take to reinstate missing miles?

I have 3 award flights on hold for my family and when I went to go ticket them, I found out that my daughter’s account is missing ~40k miles from our trip in December. I called AAdvantage customer service and they put in the request for the miles but told me it may take up to 30 days, but most likely it’ll be sooner than that. Obviously, my flights will be long gone by then. Anyone have any first hand experience on how long this will take?

The flight was a BA codeshare on American if that makes a difference.

Ugh, it can be forever. I’d call back before the ticketing deadline and see if they can manually post the miles so you can redeem for your trip. The fact that it’s on an AA-operated flight helps.

I asked them if they can expedite it somehow given that I have a flight on hold and she said they can’t. All she could say was for me to keep checking the account.

I’m so upset that AA messed this up but ultimately, it’s my fault for assuming that the miles had posted just because mine and my wife’s miles were credited properly from that flight.

Some agents will, some won’t, so I’d give it until tomorrow and then call again and ask. Sorry you’re having to deal with this 🙁

So I called again today and the CS rep that I got this time gave it an honest effort to see if he could expedite those miles. He put me on hold several times to escalate it but unfortunately, at the end of the day, they couldn’t do anything. I guess the main reason was that because it was a BA flight (codeshare or not), AA has to wait until BA approves it before the miles get posted. Real bummer.
