Hotel Award Help in rural Europe

Hotel Award Help in rural Europe

  1. AustinTexMan Member

I am planning a 2 week trip through Switzerland ,the Lake Como and Amalfi Coast areas of Italy in early September.I have been able to acquire enough Aadvantage miles for a rt business flight but having some hotel issues. I will be staying in mostly rural areas that have small independent type hotels, not the Marriott and Hyatt type of properties. The Chase Ultimate Rewards portal seems to be the only lodging site that I am having any luck with. I have 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points from the Sapphire Preferred card. I have applied for more than 5 cards in the last 2 years so as I understand I won’t be approved for another Chase card which would be ideal. I have the Starwood Preferred card but their properties also seem to be in larger urban areas of Europe. Has anyone else come up against this type situation? Any thoughts, advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!

@AustinTexMan this is where a cash back card like the Barclays Arrival Plus or the Citi Double Cash might be useful. Have you considered something like these?

I indeed had not considered those until now! That is what makes this forum so useful, especially for those of us new to the hobby. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
