Hilton Honors points bookings seem to have gotten a lot more expensive

Hilton Honors points bookings seem to have gotten a lot more expensive

    Hi there,

I am just wondering what has happened to Hilton Honors points bookings? I have a 5 night stay at the Waldorf in Maldives in June (standard room reward at 120,000 points per night, with 5th night free), and given the current COVID situation I will be canceling that, what a shame as I was really looking forward to staying in that property for a family holiday (looks amazing).

I was just having a look at the availability for later in the year and I noticed that all standard room reward bookings have disappeared and only the premium room rewards are available across multiple months, requiring some insane amount of points (some half a million to more than one million PER night), pretty similar across at Conrad Rangali, also requiring a huge amount of points (previously was 96,000 points per night on standard room rewards with good availability). Same as the Hilton Tokyo (another place that I have to be later in the year). What’s happening here? Has anyone experienced similar?

    Many thanks,

Welcome @DragonBaby – I can’t say for sure but there might be two issues in play here. First, lots of folks will be like you and have reservations already canceled and rebooked for later this year, taking up the standard rooms. Second, it’s entirely possible revenue management is taking advantage of the situation to make up for the funds lost when everyone had to cancel their trips.

Perhaps other folks can think of additional reasons.

I agree, I think the standard rooms are just all taken already. Travel has been at a standstill for almost a month now, with very flexible policies for anyone making future travel plans. Lots of folks stuck at home across the world with nothing to do but hope life gets back to normal the back half of 2020 and into 2021, so why not take advantage and make speculative bookings.

Thank you for your replies, I think you are right. I will just wait and see what happens, hopefully at some stage in the not too distant future we can all travel again and I will be lucky enough to grab another deal to go the Maldives. Until then, hope everyone stays safe and healthy!
