Hilton barclaycard

Hilton barclaycard

Hi Lucky.
This is my first visit to A mile at a time, I like your style.

I am a british Hilton diamond member and I have a problem with the Hilton credit card which is run thru Barclaycard. As we travel quite a lot we find it a problem using this card because they charge a 3% comission on use in any other currency than English pounds, this is a high rate and basically prevents it being used out of the UK. and also restricts the amount of points that can be earned.
I do not know if you were aware of this but after several mails to Hilton hierarchy I have had no reply.
I would be interested on your opinion of this.

Regards John

I dont think Hilton has anything to do with that – the fee is set by Barclaycard and theres not much you can do about it. In the US there are also cards that charge a fee when making charges in foreign currency. The only solution is to find a card that doesnt charge these fees. I’m not familiar with the UK credit card scene so I can’t make any recommendations.

This post will let you know what you should look for in a card before applying: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/07/30/choose-credit-card-outside-us/

Thanks for that David, yes I have cards that I use that do not charge for foreign use, but of course there are no points. It is a shame that Hilton, if they want to be associated with a credit card, should give some incentive to use it.
John
