Here is my question-what is the best way to use them for business class travel? Do I use the points to upgrade a full price economy ticket or do I use the points to purchase the entire ticket? Do you have any other reccomendations on how I should use the points for business or first class tickets. Thank you very much for helping me out!!

What are your destinations? For paid upgrades, you’re limited to travel on just American, I think. Otherwise, for outright award tickets, you have access to all oneworld airlines as well as other AA partners. However, not all award flights show up on AA’s award search. Use British Airway’s award search to find flights and call American to book!

Generally speaking buying award tickets offers greater value but you might consider using it for upgrades if someone else is paying for your Y ticket (business expense) and then you can use your miles to upgrade. In addition to AA, you can also use miles to upgrade on BA and IB. Hi Tyler!

Perfect advice on upgrades above, and this post might help for other tickets: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/04/12/how-to-redeem-american-aadvantage-miles/
