Getting To and From Australia

Getting To and From Australia

  1. jaw4527 New Member

    Hi All-

Trying to find the best options to Australia from Chicago ideally departing 12/18 and returning 1/3 (+/- 1 day). Happy to book a cash economy ticket from ORD to LAX/SFO and then fly to SYD/MEL from there in business/first.

    I have ~400K Chase, ~200K Amex, ~60K Citi, ~45K Delta, and ~35K AA.

Tough peak times I know and haven’t had much luck so far. All I’ve seen are standard business awards on United at 175k one way. Any other options besides trying to get lucky with VA 1-2 weeks out? Thanks!

Try searching segment by segment for connections via Asia? You can transfer to Korean Air from Chase UR for travel on them. Chase transfers to United and Amex transfers to Aeroplan for travel on Star Alliance – ANA, EVA, Thai, etc. Amex also transfers to Delta for SkyTeam business class – China Airlines, Xiamen, etc. Lastly, Chase, Amex, Citi all transfer to SQ. Might require 2 awards but it’s a tough time of year.

Also, look at flying to BNE and connecting from there. Often that route will automatically be searched by the software but it can’t hurt to double-check.
