FREE AA PLAT STATUS??
Hey guys , UA gold flyer here and an interesting mail came in today that has really got me thinking. Firstly, is this legit (see attached photo.) I mean it seems legit because everything is happening on AA’s website, but how long does it take for account to be updated? I have no Aa status and I registered for this and am waiting for my status to appear. This summer I have a lot of one world economy flights that I am crediting to Alaska, and If I really will be getting AA plat status, then I’ll be able to book main cabin extra on all the Aa flights and also I’ll be able to access all the OneWorls business class lounges. So has anyone gotten this or have any experience with this? Also will I be able to put in my AA frequent flyer number for the reservation to have the status benefits and then change back to my AS ff number after the flights are done? Thanks! I don’t know much about AA’s rules so can’t wait to hear your responses. Thanks a lot again.
Interestingly enough, I just got an email offering me free Platinum Pro Status for 4 months, assuming I fly 20,000 EQMs and spend $2,400 EQDs.
I accepted, but I don’t think I’ll end up completing it, as I can get One World sapphire with BA for 600 tier points (which is way less than 20,000 EQMs), and I found avios to be much more ‘usable’ than AA miles, given the constant lack of availability. Also the ability to visit flagship lounges is great with BA silver.
It IS legit. My wife got an email to register for the complimentary Gold status. She signed up and her new status was reflected on her AA account immediately. Then yesterday she got a mailer similar to what you did (but for the Gold). Oh, and we rarely travel on AA on a revenue ticket (but do on business award tickets to Europe and Asia).

It is legit. My platinum status has kicked in and I am able to select Main cabin Extra seats on my international routings. I also have OneWorld Sapphire now so I can access one world lounges.
