Flying Qatar business using AA miles
Hi-
I have a question about using AA miles on Qatar in business class. When trying to go MIA.DOH.BKK and return on AA.com, you can only get it to go through by putting together two different segments and then it prices out at 110,000 (70,000 + 40,000) miles instead of 70,000 like it should…at least according to the award chart. I have called AA and one time they forced it through at 70,000 but the other times, after the agent called a supervisor each time, they have held firm and said that it prices out at 110,000 and there is nothing they can or will do. It is ironic that AA.com does allow you to go the other direction (such as through HKG or Tokyo) on other airlines for the 70,000.
Thanks!
American’s policy is that – with very few exceptions – you cannot transit a third region on award flights. So while flying Qatar from the US to Africa by transiting Doha is acceptable (that’s one of the specified exceptions), transiting Doha to Asia is not allowed. You’d need to fly over the Pacific to get to BKK using AA miles.
