Firearms in hotels

Firearms in hotels

If the TSA keeps guns out of airplanes, do any hotels prohibit and screen for firearms? In NYC for the UN General assembly the hotels with diplomats do (no pre check!). Or could I be staying next to a room full of ammo anytime I check into a hotel in the US?

Most US hotels have no such screening. I can’t recall ever seeing something like that here in the US though I did encounter it abroad.

The TSA also does a fairly terrible job of keeping guns out of airplanes, tbh.

Even many governmental buildings in the US allow personal firearms to be carried inside. It’s a part of the culture in many parts of the country.

It feels a bit weird for me to say this, because I know it’s something people who aren’t from the US find very uncomfortable, but…it’s also generally fine? As a woman often traveling solo, I worry far less about the person in the room next to me having a gun, than I do about the man at the table next to me having a fourth drink.

Unless it’s the same person, then it becomes very scary !

But joking aside, even though I’ve been living in the US for just a decade (hailing from Europe), the firearms thing still weirds me out and I do worry about it when I head out in certain parts of the country. Really hard to get used to the idea.
