Fiji Award

Fiji Award

Nice post regarding Qantas. I was wondering if you might also have some guidance regarding Fiji. In ExpertFlyer and on Qantas’s website, I see award space available non-stop between LAX and NAN in October on Fiji Airways. It seems that Alaska Air is the right path to book such a flight (as I, like most, do not have Fiji or Qantas miles). However the award flights do not appear on the Alaska Air website and when I called Alaska Air the agent could not see the award flight. Is there another mechanism I should take? Or is this a case where the awards are not visible outside Fiji/Qantas until closer to departure? Thanks for any advice and experience. -Bert

Hi Bert! So the challenge with Alaska and Fiji is that Alaska has access to two fewer award seats than Fiji makes available. So if ExpertFlyer shows 4, Alaska can have 2, if they show 2, then 0.

Thanks Tiffany. Does that change over time? e.g. closer to actual departure does Fiji release more to Alaska? And do you know if Alaska sees fewer award seats from other carriers?

Alaska always has two less than are displayed, regardless of how many seats Fiji releases. American has access to all of them, so it’s a bit weird.
