extending Aeroplan reward ticket–help, please

When I last checked in April 2016, there was a workaround described a few times in this forum to get your miles redeposited or extend your time to travel. Is it still available? I had to cancel my Aeroplan reward ticket in April 2016 due to illness in the family and haven’t been able to use the reward since then for the same reason. Now the reward ticket is 361 days from original issue. Last week, I tried booking and paying fees for a new flight on Day 364. Now when I try to cancel it, I still have the original issuance date within which to travel–3 more days. It’s 160k points so I really don’t want to lose those. Help?

Full refunds of taxes and points are allowed on cancellations made up to 22 days before the first flight. Cancellations made after 22 days must be rebooked within one year from the ORIGINAL issuing date. So I don’t know if you originally cancelled it within that 22 day time period, however it sounds like you have rebooked and are now trying to cancel within 22 days. The rules clearly state that you have 1 year to use the ticket and I don’t know of any exemption. The year always starts ticking from the original issue date. Call AC and plead ignorance. Maybe because of the nature of the original; cancellation they will bend the rules. Good luck

thank you for your quick reply. Not the answer I wanted, of course. But at least, I’ve not cancelled without trying 🙂
