Excursionist Perk in Oceania

Excursionist Perk in Oceania

  1. Anonymous Guest

    1. Planning to travel to the South Pacific in summer 2019.
Originating and terminating in USA. I want to visit Samoa/American Samoa/Cook Island.

Can anyone suggest a route which will use the excursionist Perk. (with dates, if possible).

    2. Is there a way to overcome United Airlines false errors from showing up every second screen or so?

    Thanks, Dan

So, the problem with this is that United defines “Oceania” as a separate region from “Australia/New Zealand,”and you aren’t allowed to go through multiple regions on the Excursionist Perk flights.

I don’t believe there are any intra-Oceania flights operated by Star Alliance/United partners at this time (someone please correct if I’m wrong), so everything goes through Auckland.

If you’re able to plan in advance and nest itineraries for a few trips, that might give you the most value for your miles, but I think you’ll be using a cash equivalents for those intra-island flights.

Dan, I have reason to go to Guam next year, so was recently trying to maximize value on the Oceania region and could not get the engine to book anything from South Pacific to North Pacific. Even just searching RAR-GUM for example with no other flights failed to return flights. ITA Matrix searching for *A only finds itineraries.

Along the Island Hopper route and in the vicinity of Guam you can get itineraries to book. For example I previously booked USA-Pohnpei-ROR-USA, where the Pohnpei-Palau leg was free. I now have booked USA-SPN-GUM-USA. Not nearly the distance or level of value of ping-ponging around the South Pacific via AKL/SYD.
