Etihad interline baggage rules

Etihad interline baggage rules

  1. Anonymous Guest

Hello! Does anyone have experience with Etihad’s new interline baggage rules? I have a first class AA award booking on Etihad from BOM to JFK on hold and asked the agent to add JFK to DFW revenue flight to the booking under the same PNR code. I would have total 1 hour 40 min in JFK to make the connection, which I thought shouldn’t be an issue due to pre-clearance in AUH. From previous experience, the revenue flight would likely be under a different ticket number, but still under the same PNR code. From what I’ve read online, Etihad should be able to check bags through to DFW as long as it is on the same PNR. But after speaking with 2 Etihad phone agents, they are adamant that bags will only be checked through to JFK. Has anyone had any experience with this?
    Thanks!

Havent had experience myself but you cant mix award and revenue tickets on the same PNR. They may still be able to tag your bags to DFW though, as long as you present both tickets at checkin in BOM.

Yeah, I’ve never heard of a revenue and award ticket under the same PNR either. I think you’ll have to play it by ear and see what the agent at BOM will do. They should be able to tag you all the way to DFW. If there is award space available have you considered just paying the change fee and adding the JFK-DFW leg to your booking? You could even book Y and monitor for F space to become available. AA will allow you to change cabins for no additional fees.

Given AA’s lack of saver award availability on their own metal, it’s pretty hard to find space on JFK- DFW, even in Y, unless I add an AAnytime award. Thanks for the advice though- I don’t mind paying the change fee and monitoring for space to open up.
I previously booked award tickets for family in J from ATL- BOM on Qatar. I was unable to find space from DFW- ATL, so asked the AA agent if a revenue flight could be added to the reservation. It was possible and both the revenue and award portions were on the same PNR, but separate ticket numbers. Maybe they’ve started doing this since they changed their interline baggage policy?
