Etihad holding points to ransom

Etihad holding points to ransom

    Hi all,

I had a failed upgrade attempt with Etihad almost two years ago. Essentially I’d been told for weeks before the flight there were no upgrades, on checking I was told there were 5 upgrade seats; they told me to transfer the 40,000 AMEX points there and then. I did, and still got no upgrade because they couldn’t see them in my Guest account.

I’ve noticed they are due to expire on 30/11/2018 but I don’t fly to the UAE any more so have no need to Guest miles.

I’ve emailed them to ask for them to be returned as I see it as their error. They’ve said no and recommended I use them quickly.

Do I have any options other than buying items on the Guest store??

    Thanks!

    Tom

I doubt it unless they’re affiliated with a charity you’d like to donate them to. It’s easy to transfer miles into programs but very few (if any) allow you to transfer them out.

Etihad Miles can actually be pretty valuable. I don’t know if there’s been a OMAAT guide to using, but TPG did over the summer. 40,000 points could get you lots of places…

Like @rickyw points out, you can use them for awards on their partner airlines – you dont need to use them specifically to fly EY.
