Etihad AUH to Lyon with connecting Train

Hi All,

I was looking for airfare from Abu Dhabi to Lyon, France on Etihad and noticed that I can select the train station in Lyon as the destination. The itinerary consists of a flight from AUH to CDG and then a train ride from CDG to Lyon. What is strange is that this itinerary is $166 less than booking a roundtrip ticket to CDG.

Does anyone know if I can book a roundtrip ticket from AUH to Lyon and skip the train without canceling the rest of my itinerary? I’m not sure how Etihad can keep track of whether I get on a train or not.

I can’t figure out how they would know, but I would caution against this. I just made a similar booking for fun and the train somehow has an Etihad flight number attached. I am sure that Etihad has an agreement with the train operator to sell tickets and connect passengers. I am sure that they then have a way to track.

Is Etihad your only option?

Thanks for the info about the train ticket having the Etihad flight number attached to it. I was inquiring for future travels to CDG since it appears to be cheaper booking that route than just a normal RT to Paris.

As for Lyon, I will probably book the flight with the train ride with Etihad or Air France flights (which will be Etihad from AUH to CDG anyway).
