Elevate to Mileage Plan gone wrong!

Elevate to Mileage Plan gone wrong!

1. bmackissack New Member

Back in the day I transferred SPG points to Elevate in order to then convert them into Mileage Plan and get 30% more. The thing is that once I got them in Elevate, I forgot to convert them into MIleage Plan! I tried today to do so and an error kept coming up. I then called AS Mileage Plan and after quite a while they told me that they no longer convert Elevate points into Mileage Plan when then come solely from SPG!! Was there a period of time or an expiration as to when it was possible to do so? This is what AS said:
Hi Bernardo,
While my Specialist and I were reviewing your Elevate, Mileage Plan and points.com accounts we found that we are no longer letting points be converted that were converted starwood points. I am sorry to inform you but we can not transfer them for you. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

Yikes. I also transferred SPG points to Elevate earlier this year and from my understanding, once the points have been converted to Elevate, I can convert to Mileage Plan any time with the 30% bonus. I was going to book an AS trip so I’ll be transferring Elevate to top off an AS award. Will report back if I have any issues. I do plan on transferring my entire Elevate account(some from SPG transfer) so I’ll see if i run into this problem.

Wish you the best luck!!! Maybe if you have actual flown miles on Elevate they will honor the conversion. Do keep me posted!!!

Can anyone else please confirm this? The only reason I transferred some SPG points over to Virgin was to eventually get the Alaska bonus when I moved it over to Mileage Plan.

I can’t confirm but the only Elevate miles I had were earned directly with them via online methods and they transferred just fine with the bonus. So perhaps the difference is not “miles actually flown” vs. transferred in but “miles earned directly with Elevate” vs. transferred in.

Well, Alaska is supposed to be ending the VX Elevate program at the end of this year so the points in VX will all be transferred into AS’s program anyway. I can’t image them not wanting to honor the transfers now. It makes no sense.

7. erik New Member

Hey all. I submitted the process to transfer all my VX miles to AS miles just now. 25K of my VX points were from a 20K SPG transfer that I purchased during their last 50% off sale.

It took roughly 10 minutes after confirmation to see my new AS balance. Let me know how I can help. I did not have any trouble transferring purchase SPG points to Elevate and then to Mileage Plan.

I don’t think the issue is that the points won’t transfer, I think the issue is they’re not getting the 30% bonus.

Hmmm. According to OP, the reply from an AS rep stated that

“While my Specialist and I were reviewing your Elevate, Mileage Plan and points.com accounts we found that we are no longer letting points be converted that were converted starwood points.”

I read that as AS is no longer allowing the transfer of Elevate points to AS points if the origin of the Elevate points were from SPG transfers.

Ah, well then maybe I’m wrong!

Did you get the 30% bonus for the points that was originally from SPG? Also, did your transaction to MP include points from other sources besides SPG?

Hopefully this clears it up. Below is the confirmation from the transfer:

Converted from
66,167 Virgin America Elevate points
Elevate
Turned into
86,017 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™ miles
Mileage Plan™

Of the 66,167 points I converted, 25K were from SPG transfer and the rest were from flying VX over the years. I got a ratio of 1:1.3. Does that help?

What I see that they dont want to honor anymore is if you only have SPG points in your Elevate account. It seems that if you have flown miles+SPG points they do convert them at the right ratio. Has anyone been able to transfer to MP when the Elevate acct has only SPG transfered points??

From the answer that I got from MP is that they wont transfer ANY miles at all if they come from SPG 🙁

If that’s the case, what’s going to happen to the Elevate points when the program merges with MP? Doesn’t make sense that they can pick & choose which they want to honor or not, especially when we transferred it when it was allowed.

16. bmackissack New Member

I wonder if I fly with VX and get some Elevate flown miles in my acct, then they would want to transfer all of them… maybe too late??

did you try speaking with another rep? It’s odd that they are differentiating how your points are earned. It shouldn’t matter if you earned then via survey, flying, transfers, purchases etc. Similar to David’s comment above, hard to imagine AS not honoring your elevate points when the program closes.

I spoke with three different ones, they all ended up asking someone else and the last one sent me an email which is the one I posted originally
