Do travel credits offset qualified bonus spending?

Do travel credits offset qualified bonus spending?

For the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card…
Say I spent $1,000 toward the $4,000 minimum spend in 3 months to get the 100,000 points. But $300 of that $1,000 was qualified travel, and I received the full $300 credit. So the balance on my card shows $700 now, not $1,000. How much counts toward the $4,000 target? $700 or $1,000?

    $700.

You just need to spend more, the faster the better.

I feel like it shouldnt offset the spending, but everyone in this hobby always makes sure to overspend as a precaution
