Delta reserve for my wife

Delta reserve for my wife

  1. Anonymous Guest

If I were to get a Delta Reserve card for my wife, could I transfer the 10,000 MQM welcome rewards to my skymiles account? If I did it now would they post before the end of the year to boost me over to Diamond status?

Sorry, but no. The miles would post to your wife’s account and I don’t know if they’d count toward your MQMs if you then transferred them to your account. Of course there are fees involved with doing that too.

You can’t gift the sign up bonus MQM but if you were able to spend 30k on the card, you could gift the 15k MQM you would earn. I guess it’s a question of timing and your ability to spend.

It also depends on when Amex credits this type of reward. If they post like standard rewards he wouldn’t get them until the statement closes, in which case it’s too late and he would have needed to apply for the card in November to gift the MQMs before the end of the year. It’s also possible they could post within days of meeting the spending threshold like they do with the airline fee credits and introductory bonus points/miles/cash back. Someone with a Delta Reserve could better answer that question.

@Mike, that’s true which is why I mentioned timing being a factor. AmEx crediting is interesting. Miles earned after your last December statement do post in January but if your spend happened in December, your MQM bonus gets appled to the previous year so it would still boost status. Not sure how the gifting MQM crediting works precisely.
