Delta Pulls a Mileage Bait and Switch.

Delta Pulls a Mileage Bait and Switch.

  1. Anonymous Guest

Delta is again pulling a mileage offer bait and switch. For the past two days we tried to book with Delta SkyMiles one way flight from Asia. Because of having to cancel a return business class ticket on another carrier we went to Delta to see what they had to offer from Asia, preferably BKK to NYC on partner flights for June, 4, 5, 6, 7. There were at least three to four flights listed for 95,000 per person per day.

We lacked the necessary miles so we transferred miles from our Amex Platinum Card and purchased some miles directly from Delta and tried to book a flight for two. Each time we were able to choose seats and put in our credit card to pay for fees and taxes and each time (over 8 tries in all) the Delta miles booking site would return a message saying the flight was no longer offered at the published mileage rate.

Finally we called the SkyMiles desk and the agent said there was only one flight at that rate offered from BKK on the dates we needed and that was leaving at about 1:45 a.m. So I asked about flights from SGN where I’d seen multiple flights on the same days and times of departure we wanted but the agent said they were not bookable even though they still appeared on booking page on our laptops.

She found one flight offered, with a 5 1/2 hour layover in CAN but the one we wanted (and it still appeared on the booking page) a flight leaving two hours later with the same connecting flight but that one was not open. She also said she could not book seats on VN and CZ (Delta partner airlines) but after hanging up the phone, I went online and was able to confirm seats on the CZ leg.

One of us is a five million miler and the other about a 1/2 million miler. We stopped flying Delta a few years back because of these types of bait and switch games Delta plays and were down to our last miles to burn.

Thank you Delta for confirming why we hate you and hope to never do buisiness with you again. This reminded us that we still held an Amex Delta Platinum SkyMiles card and an Amex Gold SkyMiles card, both of which are being shredded as I write this. Goodbye forever and ever Delta.

Dear Ben, we know this was not a question but we did not know where to file a new comment.
