Delta Platinum or Amex Platinum for Miles

Delta Platinum or Amex Platinum for Miles

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi all,

I have a Delta Platinum Amex I use to pay everything. I usually get 150k+ miles per year using it. I am looking at taking my family to the UK next year or late this year. I have about 160k miles so I may be up to 2 tickets when we are ready to travel. I live in Atlanta so Delta is the best airline for us. I don’t travel much. Once a year for family trip and maybe 1-2 more outside of that.

I am thinking about getting the Platinum Amex. Looks like I could get another 60k plus points for signup (I will reach 5k spend very quickly). Are the points just like miles if I use them on Detla? I assume I can transfer or combine my current miles with the points from the Platinum card.

    Thanks

Mark, AmEx Membership Rewards points (which the AX Plat earns) are easily transferable to your Delta account. You will have to pay a fee for an domestic mileage transfer from AX (I think it is capped at $99). You could also transfer them to other partners like flying blue that also have access to DL inventory so you could check to see what those programs are charging (international mileage programs also don’t incur the transfer fee).

You could also consider other Delta cards like the Gold or Reserve for you or your family members. Just remember that you cannot get the bonus on the card if you have had it before. Also, the Plat AX regularly has offers for 100k bonus points so I would watch for that to make sure you can take advantage of it.

Last, if you not using the MQM feature of the Plat card you may find more value in cash back or other travel cards.
