Delta International Upgrades
Hi All,
I’ve been an American Elite over the past few years, but my work travel this year has me committed to Delta, so I’m hoping someone more versed in SkyMiles can help
I’m hoping to fly business to Europe this summer, and don’t quite have the miles yet, but I found an excellent revenue economy fare that fits my schedule. I’ll be SkyMiles Platinum by the time the trip happens, but I see the rule is essentially no upgrades on international flights.
Is that true in practice or more the nominal policy? I may try to explore some other redemption opportunities if so, but if it’s reasonable to hope that an upgrade might happen or I can use to SM to upgrade, the revenue fare is a great deal I’d like to jump on.
Any help would be appreciated!
@Mark16, I’ve never seen a complimentary upgrade on DL international flights. You can upgrade with miles (basically paying 1c/mile for the cost difference) or do a mileage upgrade. The rules for those options are:

I wouldn’t plan on it — upgrades with SkyMiles are horrifically expensive (more than a full saver award would be in many cases), and I wouldn’t expect an upgrade unless you’re a Diamond using instruments.
Well that’s certainly a bummer. Oh well, i appreciate the info!
