Delaying milage accrual

    Hello,

I’ve clocked about 65K KLM qualifying miles – enough to retain Skyteam Gold for next year and 5K short of Skyteam Platinum. I have a long-haul business class flight on Skyteam coming up which will definitely push me over 70K and into Platinum – which I want to avoid. I’d rather stay Gold and carry over the balance qualifying miles into my account for next year so that I get a head start for 2018.

If I remove my Flying Blue number from the reservation and claim the miles sometime in the new year would it post retrospectively and would my status change to Platinum retrospectively? Or will the miles counts for 2017?

First world problems, I know, but I would very much rather stay Gold and get a head start on Gold for 2018. I’m renouncing airline loyalty from 2017 but it would be nice to have Gold on KLM covered for the next 2 years because I end up flying them frequently in coach within Europe.

It should get credited based on date of travel. Have you considered crediting to a partner program? Maybe DL where miles don’t expire?
