Delayed Baggage Compensation

Delayed Baggage Compensation

Hi all. Tried to post this earlier but it looks like it did t make it for some reason.

My cousin from Sweden flew on SAS thru Copenhagen, Chicago and ended in Calgary, with the last leg on United. They had a short layover in Copenhagen combined with their flight being a bit late. Long story short her bag didn’t make the transfer there and it took 4 days for the bag to reappear in Calgary (they were in Jasper at the time). She dealt with UA the whole time trying to reconnect with her bag and the multiple phone calls and now-statements were frustrating.

UA offered her some points for compensation but that’s a pretty useless item for her as she wouldn’t have the opportunity to use them. My main question is who should she deal with to ask for compensation? Flight was booked thru SAS and they lost the bag. Wondering if any benefits with the flight departing the EU? Not sure if they have rules around that much like EU261 for flight delays. Also, thoughts on reasonable compensation? Thanks in advance!!

From my understanding, since the last flight was UA from ORD-YYC, you created the missing baggage PIR with UA. Therefore, they are responsible for retrieving and giving compensation for your luggage. My best advice is trying to claim compensation under the new Canadian Transportation Agency regulations.
