The Pier, Business just opened at HKG and it looks great! Definitely planning to visit the lounge in October when I connect in HKG on a CX J award

did we previously only have the pier, first class lounge?
It was being renovated, like The Pier, First was.

ah ok, thanks for clarifying, what Airline program did you book your J award through? AAdvantage?
Yeah, AAdvantage, before the deval. JFK-HKG-DPS with an overnight connection in HKG.

luckily J awards weren’t hit too badly, I haven’t done too much international flying this year, just a bunch of domestic
Yeah, there’s still some availability with J. My friend and I bought AA miles when they had a promotion last December and pieced together a trip. I booked CX JFK-HKG-DPS in J, and EY SIN-AUH-JFK in F. I had 20k FlyingBlue miles that were expiring so I ended up booking DPS-SIN on Garuda in Y
I’m jacked to check it out in September! I’ll be flying CX from HKG-LAX

what’s the best way to search for CX and Garuda space? The best way to search for EY is to use EY’s page correct?
Yeah, search for EY using EY’s page.
For CX, BA’s tool is pretty reliable and easiest to use but if you see seats on BA and an AA agent doesnt see it, it could be phantom space. In that situation, check for CX awards via JL and QF. If they dont display it, seats are probably not there.
For GA, their space shows on Delta’s tool as well as Air France. If you see something on DL and not on AF, it’s probably not displaying correctly on AF but you can call AF to book. Sadly, DL and AF both charge change fees for any kind of change – date, flight (even when keeping origin/destination the same)

Yeah, my friend thinks I’m crazy but it should be fun. He’s basically never left the country (I dont really consider Canada, Mexico & The Caribbean “leaving the country”) so it should be an interesting experience. We have an overnight in HKG, 4 nights in Bali, a night in SIN and 2 nights in AUH. The longest and furthest he’s flown is JFK-SFO for ~6 hours in Y so I’m fully prepared to slip him some Nyquil to knock him out if he complains about 14 hours to HKG in J ;):D

hope you enjoy that cirrus seat ๐ did you manage to score the mini-cabin?
Nah no mini cabin. It’s either full or blocked ๐

aww! I bet you’ll still have a great flight though! BA uses the F and J lounges in T5 at ORD for their respective class, what do they use at JFK?
CX and BA both operate out of T7 at JFK and has a BA Galleries Lounge, so CX uses that. I’ve been there and its kinda meh. Not a bad place to hang around compared to the rest of the terminal but also not a place I’d actively try and be early for.
UA operated out of T7 and had a Club before they pulled out of JFK completely. Considering CX flies 4x a day to HKG (one has a stop on YVR), I’m hoping CX will take over the old UA Club and make it a dedicated lounge.

that’d be nice, all of the lounges at the T5 terminal at ORD are tiny and bad (the international terminal houses all international flights except for AA and a few OW airlines and UA and a few * airlines) meaning CX and BA still operate out of T5 (We get CX once a day and BA twice a day)
I feel like there are no truly great domestic lounges in the US by a US based airline. Even among foreign airlines, theres few that are truly worth making time for – Qantas @ LAX, Virgin @ LAX(?), Virgin & Etihad @ JFK. Amex Centurion’s are great but gets crowded so easily. LGA’s is also landside so you have to make time to get past security. The Admirals Club at LGA is nice and looks newly renovated but I was there early in the morning and the food spread sucked.

1/2 of the Admirals clubs at ORD are renovation and 2, soon to be 3 of the four UA clubs are renovated

i went to the centurion lounge and Admirals club at LGA last summer and the centurion lounge had many people in it, but not too crowded, AA club was not crowded but it sucked and it wasn’t renovated when i was there
Oh thats good. I’ll check out the AA clubs the next time I’m in ORD. I’m dying to have dinner at Alinea – they just reopened! I also want to go back to Girl & the Goat.

if you come to ORD go to the G admirals club in the eagle concourse, much smaller, but a lot less crowded and it is renovated
