CX F and J awards

CX F and J awards

Starting to plan that July honeymoon, right now I have a booking on CX using Alaska MP – first leg of the trip JFK-HKG in F, stopover HKG, and then HKG-JNB in PY. Not a bad redemption but as they say you need to “garden” your redemption to stand a chance of getting your ideal flights. So, here’re the snags:

    1. For the JFK-HKG leg, I have both of us in F but on different flights (CX only releases 1 F seat per flights this early). Seems like CX is pretty consistent about releasing additional F inventory about 1-2 weeks from the flight date, up to about 48-72 hours. Checked the seat map, at this time no other seat is sold yet. Anyone with any real-time experience with that? Obviously we’d both like to be on the same flight so we can dine together (that’s CX F’s unique plus point!), wouldn’t even mind if I downgraded to J, but that isn’t an option at the moment as there’s no J space.

    2. For the HKG-JNB leg, we’re both on the same flight in PY. No J availability at this time. Checked the seat map, 4 J seats occupied. Not sure how reliably J inventory opens up as compared to F, but from what I see it is pretty erratic. Anyone with any real-time experience with that?

CX seems to be holding last minute space for it’s own AsiaMiles members so it’s tough to say for sure.
