CX Award with Alaska
Hi,
I know that Alaska offers stopovers for their awards. I would like to book a segment from JFK to YVR on CX J then stop for a week and then continue on from YVR to HKG on CX in J as well.
However, I am only seeing J available for the first segment and PEY for the second segment. Can I have the agents charge me the applicable miles for J and book me in PEY for the second segment and then move up to J once I see a space open up? Also, can I change from PEY to J after flying the first segment?
Does alaska allow itinerary changes on an award bookings with a stopover after the first segment has already been flown?
Thanks
You’d have to call AS to book that award anyway since they do not show CX awards online.
AS does allow award changes for free up to 60 days from departure and charges $125 per change within 60 days of departure. However, there are 2 issues:
AS only allows stopovers on the partner airline’s gateway city and I don’t think AS considers YVR to be a CX gateway city. I’m not sure if AS will let you book YVR as a stopover but please ask, it might be possible.
Secondly, AS cannot change/upgrade a single segment on a multi segment itinerary unless all segments have award space available. If you ticketed JFK-YVR in J, stopover, and then YVR-HKG in W, you need to be able to find both legs with J space available before you can call AS to reissue the award. If there is only J available on YVR-HKG but not on JFK-YVR, then AS cannot change your award.
