Checked bags on overnight layover?

Checked bags on overnight layover?

Flying AA BNA-KOA with overnight LAX. I know I have to collect my bags for hotel stay, but will I be charged baggage fee again when I recheck next day?

Can you also tell me which terminal AA will depart for KOA?

Welcome @jlou (I’m down the road in Memphis). Are you flying on two separate tickets (record locators), if not then AA will keep your bags overnight so you’ll want to pack a carry-on with whatever you’d need for an overnight stay.

If you’re on two separate tickets then yes, you will be charged a second baggage fee.

I believe most AA flights depart from T4 at LAX.

Thanks for the reply. There is only one record locator. We will be arriving LAX at 6:40 pm on 01/31 and departing at 10:00 am on 02/01. I thought they would not check bags through if you layover was longer than 12 hrs. Is this not correct?

I don’t actually experience with that kind of situation so let’s see if someone else can answer.

My bags have always been checked through on overnight layovers. I last did this in September 2016 so at least as of then it was the policy. You might want to phone AA for clarification.
