I recently got the CSR card and read that the travel credit renews each December. Does this mean that I need to spend $300 in travel before December to fully take advantage of the credit? Do purchases through the Chase Sapphire portal count? Thanks!

That is correct. Travel purchases through the portal should count. So should gift cards bought directly from the airline.

To be on the safe side I would make the charges before your statement close in December. I haven’t seen a clear answer if the year is based on calendar or statement year.
