chase reserve card

my wife and i each have the citi prestige card and are saving up points for singapore air. we have lots of amex points, too but gave up platinum card for no real benefit since virtuoso had as good of hotels and the 4th nite benefit with prestige was good. we have no chase points. does it make sense to get the reserve card for me (she has too many apps for the 5/24 rule) to start up with chase rewards? If we don;t get benefits other than the 300 credit in 2 years can we still keep the points and downgrade to a lesser chase card unlike wih citi prestige? 100k points if we can combine with citi points or amex points would be great. thanks.

Just to clarify, you can’t combine Chase UR points and Citi TY points but both programs will allow you to transfer their points to Singapore Airlines.

You should be able to downgrade the CSR to a Sapphire Preferred which has a $95 fee after a year’s time. You wouldn’t want to downgrade all the way to a Freedom card unless you already have a CSP or an Ink card because if you only have a Freedom card you cannot transfer the URs to airlines/hotels but only use them to book via the UR portal.

    Does that help?

yes so we could transfer different cards points to singapore which would be great. i am also curious how their fine hotels program is compared to virtuoso. sounds like a good card. you getting it?

I’m planning to apply later this week!

I don’t know how Chase’s hotels compare with the Virtuoso properties. Scott over at Travel Codex did this comparison between the Chase program and Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, so maybe that’ll help.

I remember Lucky said awhile ago that he expected the signup bonus to stick around for between 2 and 6 months, but that of course no one can really make an accurate prediction.

However, I know in the past that some credit card offers have been given expiration dates, most notably, the recent Delta credit card offers, and a United offer for 70k miles for the month of June.

Would you predict that the Sapphire Reserved will announce in advance the date that they’ll end the 100k signup bonus? Or would it just happen by surprise?

(I have a lot of travel planned for December/January, so if possible I’d like to hold out until October of this year to get the card so it’ll be easier for me to hit $4000 in spend. However, I would like to be reasonably certain that I will not miss the bonus!)

@wilve, unfortunately no one knows this and there is no guarantee that Chase will announce this in advance. If you really want it, I would suggest applying for it while it is available.
