Change airlines/tickets in Madrid
We have a ticketed flight on Qatar from MLE to Madrid, arriving at 10:00am. We then transfer on a separate ticket on Iberia for a flight to EZE at noon. Is this doable? Will we need to clear immigration and customs in Madrid in order to check in for our MAD/EZE flight since it’s on a different ticket? Thanks very much for the help.
Marshall, do you have luggage?
It’s been a few years since I was at Madrid airport, but both Qatar and Iberia are Terminal 4, so that will help cut some time. But, if you need to re-check luggage, then that could take some extra time

Hi,
If your luggages do not continue to EZE, you must recollect them at baggage claim and re-check at Iberia counter. If you have no baggage, the next ticket can be issued at transit desk.

Yes, we will have luggage. Your link was very helpful, thank you…it’s pretty clear I will need to clear customs. In my favor is that we are in business class arriving and departing, hopefully that may help expedite things, at least on check-in. I’ll double check on the terminal, if I’m not arriving and departing from the same terminal it feels like it’s just going to be too stressful. Thanks again for the help!
The Qatar flight actually makes a stop in Zurich, then transfers to an Iberia operated flight to Madrid. I guess my next question is would I have any shot of getting Qatar to check my baggage thru to EZE so I stay “in-transit”?

Thank you. My routing from MLE is thru DOH then ZRH and ZRH to MAD is operated by Iberia on a Qatar codeshare. Any chance I can get my luggage checked thru to EZE?

It is possible, but not likely. Even though Qatar and Iberia are both OneWorld…most ground agents won’t actually do it. Still worth a shot to ask!
