Cell service at the gate
Maybe this has been asked and answered but lately i feel like i have no service at the gate while on the plane. Are they jamming your service and why? I have 1 bar max and often even just No service at all
You’ll only notice this on planes which offer on-board WiFi. The frequencies mess up cell service connections. Even satellite radios do not work onboard aircraft with WiFi. They are not intentionally blocking it

Thanks for explaining. Cant they shut off Wifi while at the gate so passengers can just use their date or the regular on the ground free wifi ? I guess its not that simple. Basically no work can be done on the phone or lap the entire time on the plane on the ground at the gate
I read somewhere that the composite materials used to build the 787 also block some cell signals
Thats really interesting. And most recently i recall having no service while sitting on AA or UA 787’s. Although I know its happened on Delta too and they dont have any but still very interesting, never had heard about this
