Cancelling award tickets due to airport change

Cancelling award tickets due to airport change

Good afternoon, I’m new to Ask Lucky (just joined). Therefore, I apologize in advance if this question was asked before (I couldn’t find an answer via “search”).

I booked tickets to Japan using AA miles (and flying JAL). We were planning to land in Narita and take a connecting flight from there. However, I noticed that the flight is now supposed to land in Haneda instead (as posted by OneMileAtATime before). Due to other reasons, we might need to cancel the entire itinerary. My question is: Since they changed the destination airport, am I entitled to get a waiver of the cancellation penalty, if I need to cancel those tickets?

Thanks in advance for your response!

Most likely, yes. When you call American, I’d tell them you need to cancel based on the airport change, not whatever you’re other reason is.
