Buying ticket through ultimate rewards or from the airlines website

Buying ticket through ultimate rewards or from the airlines website

Hi there! I have a question regarding buying 2 seniors tickets for my parents in LATAM from Lima, Peru to Los Angeles, USA. I have a good amount of points but I don’t want to use it since its going to be for a later time. The question goes to anyone that could help me out. I do want to make more points, so it is better to book with Ultimate Rewards or buying it through their airline. Both prices are the same but which one will give me more rewards and benefits. Plus could I add my BA mileage rewards to the flight in the Ultimate Rewards? If the price were to fall, could I get some money back in the Ultimate Rewards? Thank you for anyone answering my questions. Have a Great Day!

Just to clarify – you’re looking to pay cash and want to know which way will help you earn more Ultimate Rewards?

If that’s the case just go through the UR portal and pay with your card.

Unless you buy a refundable ticket, which would be much more expensive, I’m not aware of a portal that will refund you the difference.

@Kakiong84 If you book through the UR portal it is the same as buying a cash ticket. If you have the Chase Sapphire/Reserve you can redeem at an enhanced rate (1.25/1.5 cpp). The mileage earned can be sent to any LATAM partner like AA, BA etc. You cannot earn on flights that your parents make but maybe if you credit to BA you might be able to take advantage of family pooling? I’ve never done that before so make sure to check on the fine print.

As MSS says, airlines do not usually refund differences unless it’s an expensive ticket. Alaska is the only airline that I know that offers something along those lines.

Thank you for the fast reply guys! Just to clarify the question was if it is better to buy the ticket using my chase credit card with the ultimate reward website or directly through the airline website. Which one will benefit me the most?

Define “benefit”. If you’re looking to earn extra URs then buy through the UR portal. As @Gaurav said, you won’t be able to earn flight miles for the tickets in your parents’ names so that’s going to be the best way for you to accumulate points that you can use.
