Business Credit Card Points with Business Partners

Business Credit Card Points with Business Partners

  1. Kevin S New Member

    Hello,

I would be curious for Ben to post this question to the broader audience or provide insight of his own: how do people go about splitting points accumulated through business credit card spend when the business has multiple owners (partners).

I own a business with a business partner where our shares are 50/50. We accumulate a lot of points through business CC spend across different cards and simply split the points in half (we keep a running record) so in case someone is short for a redemption or needs points they can tap into their share of the business account points.

I’m curious how this works for businesses with multiple owners, and when abusiness is sold do they points transfer to the new owner?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work! – Kevin

There’s no right or wrong so it’d depend on each partner. Some might not care for them at all (shocking, I know) or they might just split it evenly among all partners. Some may use it as a form of employee rewards or some other kind of employee-related benefit.

For the sale of a business, I think it depends. Maybe the old and new owners will file paperwork with the bank to transfer over the financial responsibility of the card, which would include any earned rewards. Old owners could redeem/transfer the points before ownership changes, or something else. It’s pretty flexible given there’s not much regulation over something like this.
