Business class travel to Nairobi in 2017

Business class travel to Nairobi in 2017

  1. Daniel B Gold

I am in the early planning phase of a business class trip to Nairobi in the summer of next year. I have been looking at airfares for Aug 2016 just to get a feel for the prices. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to which airline has historically good deals for the summer months to Nairobi (or other places where one can do a safari). I also looked at AA miles, but it seems that it is not a viable option because mainly BA flights through London are used, and the taxes are far too high. Thanking you in anticipation for your recommendations.

Have you considered Qatar Airways thru Doha? I believe AAdvantage has an exception where you can fly NA-Afria via Doha as long as both legs are on QR metal. Furthermore, if you can fly PHL/BOS/JFK-DOH, you’d have a great chance of being on their new A350s instead of their old B777s.

Etihad is also an AA partner but I’m not sure if AA has changed their routing rules to allow NA-Africa via AUH on EY.

Do you have any other miles and points elsewhere?

Thank you for your quick reply. Actually yes, I found good deals on Qatar Airways and also Turkish Airlines from JFK a few weeks ago when I first looked (both revenue tickets). I will of course need a positioning flight from my home city to JFK. I was thinking that if I get a fare under 3.5k/person, then maybe it is better then using AA miles (which I would need to purchase that much anyway – although in that case the positioning flight to JFK could also be included). I have been using purchased AA points to fly to Europe and Asia. We primarily have AA miles (but not so much now having depleted all of our accounts right before the devaluation a few months ago).

And if you want to fly Qatar using AA miles, note that it flies into these airports besides JFK: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, DFW, Houston, LAX, Philadelphia, Washington Dulles.

Thank you. Since my home airport is BNA, ATL would be the closest to drive to. Or get cheap, $100 tickets to either JFK or IAD. I guess I will check the options again as soon as their schedule opens up.

If you decide to book via AA miles, you can include an AA domestic segments on the award at no extra cost.
