Book now or wait for prices to drop even more??

Book now or wait for prices to drop even more??

  1. Anonymous Guest

Heyo-long time reader, but first time poster. (Isn’t this how these all start)

I am going to have my honeymoon this june in Puerto Rico! I am not worried about the virus and want to book travel for June. Right now I’m looking at the prices and they are pretty typical for normal United operations. Should I wait until the prices drop and see if United offers more incentives for me to book? Or should I just book now and change the flight if it drops?

    Thanks,

Honestly I would hold my breath (if based in the States) til past August. (Maybe Labor day weekend would be a good start)…Among the US3, I think United would be the most stingy one to release good deals.

6 weeks out is often the best time to buy, or so I’ve read. But that is probably best advice for business travel. For vacations, and in particular a honeymoon, I’d want the security of knowing I have seats. But in your case I would wait to about 6 weeks out – or at least until mid/late April. Perhaps then we’ll have a better idea of where things stand.

I’d recommend using Google Flights to check fares periodically – it will tell you whether the fares are above, below, or at the historical average price. Though right now it is hard to know what average is….

Puerto Rico routinely has flight deals for around $100/rt in economy, and not that much more in business (from NYC). Depends on where you’re flying from, but if you’re coming from the east coast, flights are ridiculously cheap right now so you might as well book.

A friend of mine just changed his ticket to extend his trip down there and the return one-way flight was $45, plus they waived the change fee due to Corona exceptions.
