Best Way to Redeem Miles on EK AKL-SYD

Best Way to Redeem Miles on EK AKL-SYD

I am attempting to book EK from AKL-SYD and I planning on using AS miles, however when searching that route EK does not show up. Any ideas on who else I can use to redeem miles for AKL-SYD?

Have you checked JAL? You can transfer MR to their program.

Almost all AS redemptions on partner airlines requires that travel must start or end in North America. I believe the only exception is for Cathay where you can have travel between Hong Kong and other parts of the world without including North America.

@Gaurav I thought only SPG transferred to JAL…

Whoops, thanks for catching that @David W. Had MR on my mind for some reason.

The only redemption between AKL-SYD with Alaska miles is on Qantas.

However, a readily available flight is on LAN on their 787 between these 2 cities. The normal rate is 20,000 points for J plus taxes. However if you click on “additional options” the fare I got was 11,000 points plus $120 and taxes. Meaning the 9,000 points were 1.33 cents each. Having said all that, the one way fare was only $450 so the point value isn’t all that great on this route. You can only do this with Avios on BA’s site.

Another option is Star Alliance. For 17,500 Krisflyer miles you can get Air New Zealand 787 on this route plus $45 in taxes. That’s better than UA.

(I have booked all of these)
