Best way to get to AAdvantage Platinum
Hello Ben,
For a fairly long time I have been stuck at American AAdvantage Gold. I seem to fly AA for my work better than 80% of the time. I’ve retired now and want to plan an around the world trip on One World which I plan to pay for. I would really like to get to the Platinum level of 50K having missed it several times in my working years by only a few miles. I live in DC and DCA is just a mile from my home. What would be an efficient way to do some day trips from DCA to get to 50K AAdvantage Platinum next year? I really need day trips for mileage runs as I have animals that wouldn’t do really great if I am gone overnight. Thanks in advance for your help.
Neal
Try finding cheap premium class fares using Google flights? It will be easier if you have Gold now
If you can only do day trips due to pets, you’re not flying regularly due to retirement, and you’re going to pay on RTW ticket, what’s the point of getting to Platinum?
Lots of cheap economy nonstops from DCA to LAX that leave early in the morning and get you back by early evening. Alternatively, you can take early evening flights from DCA to LAX and then a red eye back. I would only employ this approach if you are looking to “top off” an already significant EQM balance enroute to PLT. And don’t forget credit card EQM – an extra 10,000 EQM if you spend $40k on your card. Good luck with your travels!
