Best international for elite status free upgrades

Best international for elite status free upgrades

  1. Anonymous Guest

I fly from Boston to Bangkok at least 4 times per year and am trying to find out which airline is mostly likely to give me free upgrades to Business class when I achieve elite status with their points club. I also make many other flights around Asia every year – as well as several flights from Boston to Mexico City. I can’t stomach paying for Business class all of the time – so I want to find other ways of either getting free upgrades – or, alternatively – getting good deals on upgrades with Amex Platinum points (of which I earn about 250,000 per year). I currently have Silver Status with Qatar – but upgrades are very rare so far ( I have gotten only 1 in the last 3 years). I am open to any suggestions.

hi JB, complimentary upgrades for international routes are highly unusual without some sort of irregular operations. You’re likely best off trying to find discounted fares or booking with airlines that allow you to transfer your AX points to their frequent flyer program and using those to upgrade. If you have the AX Business Platinum you can also use the pay with points feature to save 35%.
