BA First 747 v. 787?
Dear OMAAT Contributors,
I am going on a trip to Europe with British Airways in First and have the choice of flying on a 747-400 or 787-9. Normally I would pick the newer product in a heartbeat, but I should I pass up a flight in the nose of a jumbo?
Sincerely,
SFlyer
If you haven’t flown it before, the nose of the 747 is great. Otherwise, I’d pick the 787-9 with the refreshed F.
Agree with @David W that a 747 in the nose is great, but not on BA imo. BA stuffs 14 seats in the nose vs 8 for LH, 12 United/KE, 9 for Thai, even Asiana and Air India only have 10. I hear the BA 787-9 first class is outstanding.
The 747 nose is great but, it is essentially a Reverse herringbone seat with a bit more room. The 787 is 2 generations ahead of the 747/777 and a supposedly a lot better.
In case you want a BA 787 F review (albeit from another blog) here it is: https://theluxurytravelexpert.com/2016/04/20/trip-report-british-airways-dreamliner-b787-9-first-class/
Agreed, I really only like BA’s 747 in row 1, otherwise the 787 is probably the better overall experience.

whoever thought 14 F seats in the nose though…
Flown in both. Had a way better crew on the 744, but the product is typically showing its age. However, it is still stylish and comfortable.
The 789 is in another league, entirely. Far more spacious, better screen res for IFE and flight tracking, much more responsive seat controls. Not to mention way bigger windows, bigger seat for sleeping and newer bathrooms.
If I had a choice to fly either one, I’d likely pick the 789.
