BA did not ticket the return portion of my trip.

BA did not ticket the return portion of my trip.

    Hi Everyone:

I booked a trip on BA using Avios to LHR, then to Pisa and back. Since the return leg was not immediately avalaible I booked the outward trip, then the return when it came available. This was done last June. The Avios were deducted from my account. A few days later I received an email from the Executive Club about changes to my booking and my seat choices in First clas. later, I requested my meal on the return leg.

Apart from being told on arrival at LHR that my suitcases were still in Seattle everything seemed to be going smoothly. However, when I tried to check in online for the return morning Pisa/Gatwick flight it said I would have to do so at the check in counter. On arriving at Pisa the BA check in person informed my wife and I there was not ticket in my name. I showed her everything on My BA ap, and she looked very puzzled. Then, she told me that the flight was full, so I would have to go to the ticket counter to buy tickets for a different flight. Ticketing also said all the early flights were fully booked, but we could buy a flight to LHR instead of Gatwick leave that evening. Then, I called BA and was told that the return portion to Pisa and the flight from LHR to Seattle had not been billed to my credit card, so if I paid the missing fuel surcharges etc. the ticket would be issued. I did so and ironically there was room on my original flight.

Obviously, I should have noticed that the return portion of this trip did not get charged to my credit card, However, how do BA let me choose seats and a meal all for a trip that was not paid for, except for the Avios? Why did BA not ticket the return portion and charge my credit card, nor contact me about this?

    David
